2025 G.E.A. Readathon for SARAH
Record-Breaking Year!
For more than 60 years, the Guilford Education Association (GEA) has supported the SARAH Foundation through a variety of fundraising activities and campaigns. The annual GEA Readathon for SARAH is a long-standing initiative that benefits SARAH.
Teachers and students from Guilford’s four elementary schools and Baldwin Middle School participate in the readathon every year. GEA representatives in each building work with teachers, administration, and staff at the SARAH Foundation to launch the annual campaign. Students learn about SARAH’s mission through video and in-person presentations. Participating students commit to reading during the multi-week campaign while seeking donations in support of SARAH. The eager young philanthropists pledge to read a specific number of pages or books during the campaign period in return for contributions. Gifts from family, friends and neighbors are collected and returned to the student’s classroom.
“I’m so proud of all the students and our GEA members for their continued dedication to the SARAH organization through the GEA Readathon,” said Regina Sullivan, GEA President. “Their kindness, hard work, and Community Spirit are inspiring – and I’m incredibly thankful to all the families and supporters who help make this impact possible every year.”
The readathon experienced record participation this year thanks to incredible support from the teachers who spearheaded the campaign within their classrooms. A total of 412 students registered to take part in the Readathon, far surpassing recent years. The compassionate and generous students collectively raised $42,524.50 in support of the SARAH Foundation! Simply amazing and the total represents record-high results!
“I’m incredibly proud of all our readers who took part in this year’s GEA Readathon for SARAH. As this marks my 10th year organizing the fundraiser, I remain deeply impressed by Guilford’s generosity, this year’s total is among the highest I can recall,” stated Patty McLaughlin, GEA PR Recording Secretary and 5th grade teacher at Baldwin Middle School.
“I’m especially grateful to the GEA Building Representatives at our five K–6 schools, the teachers who encouraged participation, and the parents who supported their children. I’m truly thankful to work with such amazing colleagues in such a remarkable community. Together, we’ve once again helped make independence possible.”
Baldwin Middle School was the top performing school, raising $10,825.00. Fourth grade student, Ellery, at Guilford Lakes Elementary was the District Top Fundraiser by collecting $1,825.00. It was her second consecutive year as the top fundraiser. Top performing students at each school were recognized with a personalized plaque along with a gift card to a local bookstore.
“We are incredibly thankful and inspired by the amazing students, devoted teachers, and our wonderful partners at the Guilford Education Association for their unwavering support of SARAH over the years,” said Ken Alberti, Executive Director of the SARAH Foundation. “The 2025 GEA Readathon for SARAH was a remarkable success! Not only did the campaign generate critical funds to support our programs, but it also serves as a powerful educational opportunity to inspire future leaders about the importance of community service and giving back. We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making this year’s campaign so impactful.”
Reader incentive prizes were provided by our generous sponsors – Bishop’s Orchards and Happy Days Vending & Rentals. The SARAH Foundation provided giveaways for all participating students and teachers created additional prizes within their school and/or classrooms.
