Colleen and her husband, Ed, are the proud parents of Edward, who participates in the SARAH Tuxis Harbor Day Program. For years, Colleen and Ed faced a familiar challenge for many families — finding reliable care and support for their adult child so they could attend events, travel, or simply enjoy a night out together. With their extended family living out of state, opportunities for respite were few and far between.
That all changed when the SARAH Tuxis Respite Program was created. Through the vision and leadership of the SARAH Tuxis team, an unused apartment on the second floor of Tuxis Harbor was transformed into a warm, fully accessible, two-bedroom respite space — complete with a kitchen, living room, and laundry area. It quickly became a place of comfort, trust, and independence for individuals like Edward, and peace of mind for families like Colleen’s.
For Edward, the respite program has been life-changing. He loves his time there, sleeps well, and feels right at home thanks to the familiar environment and caring staff. For his parents, the freedom and reassurance it provides have been transformative. Because of this program, Colleen and Ed have been able to travel to visit their grandchildren in Denver, enjoy time together in Napa, and even plan a dream vacation to Italy — all while knowing Edward is safe, happy, and well cared for.
The SARAH Tuxis Respite Program is more than a service — it’s a lifeline for families. It represents the compassion, innovation, and community connection that your support makes possible every single day.
